Catherine Wachs, Owner, Landscape Designer & Garden Geek
For most of her life, New York City native Catherine Wachs didn’t know the first thing about gardening. But all of that changed in 1993 when she, her husband Stuart, and her two young daughters moved from a tiny apartment on the Upper East Side to an old farmhouse in Larchmont, NY. All of the sudden, she had a yard filled with space to grow a garden, but as a busy working mom from the city, she lacked the time and knowledge to bring it to life. Thus began her journey to learn how to grow an environmentally friendly home garden that wouldn’t need her constant attention.
In the following years, Ms. Wachs (rhymes with phlox) became a Sheldrake Environmental Center naturalist educator and trainer. She studied landscape design at the New York Botanical Gardens.
Since then, Catherine has turned her passion for gardening into The Lazy Gardener, a flourishing landscape consulting and maintenance business that helps people transform their outdoor space into a stunning, sustainable oasis.
Dana Wiltshire, Office Manager
Raised on the Caribbean shores of Barbados, the granddaughter of two agricultural families, Dana gardened from a young age. A vegetarian, she enjoys growing her food while discovering exciting new dishes.
Dana moved to New York City for high school and college, earning degrees in both Business Management and Political Science.
Dana was since chosen by the non-profit Good Shepherd Services to manage and teach gardening classes. She has sat on the board of the James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center.
In her spare time, Dana works for food and environmental justice. Dana observes, "It’s good to be well balanced in life. Passion without organization is chaos”.
